Barzakh Falah

Greetings!

We have partnered with Nancy and Jaime Marin of Barzakh Falah, the Sustainable Children's Home of Belize. We will be researching, planning, and constructing a challenge course for at-risk youth.  The women and children of Mary Open Doors and similar organizations will use the challenge course as a means for participants to gain trust and teamwork skills.  The course will have a sustainable design, through the use of recycled and environmentally friendly resources and including games that require little infrastructure.  A curriculum will be developed for the challenge course that includes activity instructions, safety regulations, and further therapeutic applications (animal, nature, art, music). We will also be responsible for doing a needs assessment and writing a letter to donors for the project.   We are excited to get started!

We are also aiding in other construction projects at Barzakh Falah when we can.  This past Sunday, our group and five of our enthusiastic friends (Alyson Wall, Dan Devlin, Molly Nagel, Jordan Walsh, and Diana del Solar) spent the entire day mixing concrete to help Jaime continue construction on the kitchen.  It was grueling work, but everyone kept smiles on their faces and we were very grateful for everyone's efforts.

Still smiling after a hard day's work!

Stay tuned for updates!
